Taboos?
Spoken and unspoken rules.
Spoken and unspoken rules.
As many entries in the map exemplify, there was a big difference between the topics that participants shared in the interviews and the content shared in the communities. Immigration, drugs, strikes, or the LGTB scene are some of the examples that come to my mind. There is little to no content about this in most groups, often without an explicit prohibition. The group rule of “no politics” come to my mind, as these are topics that can lead to homophobia, judgmental comments, racism, or political discussion. The rule of no politics is understood in an extensive way, bringing peace at the cost of a certain conservative bias in the groups, since many people do not engage in the groups about topics that are of great importance to them.
